Nicky talks about P&E, Dagstine, working with Silverthought, and the value of education, at VampireFreaks. There’s also a cached version here.
There’s more good stuff here, and here, after the cut (it’s typical Nicky wall-o-text. Highlights include his still considering Dagstine a friend.

U pesci fet d’a testa – that’s the industry for you.
Preditors & Editors actually had this kind of corruption. Yeah I got something to say to them, Madone de mia. I don’t really speak much Italian but I am picking up the Sicilian version. I’ve been ignoring the politics these days, but yeah it comes in threes. That anthology they put together, lot to be desired and it was rushed. The compiler looks like he pulled his pants down and took a steamer upon the thing then slapped some fancy artwork on it.
When they red flagged me that is kind of sad on their part because I know what to look for and bring in. When doing Sevenheads, this will be a bitch in many ways but I am looking to have an outside publisher work with me on this. Kind of thinking having Silverthought Press work with me if I can talk to Dagstine about getting this going. Ever since I got published, it’s been nothing but an uphill battle. Lost friends here and there but learning that I am getting a fanbase in the city, MC’ing that first show I did helped me in a bit because the owners of the label got a kick out of the anthology. But one thing is evident, the political game is smelling like a dead fish rotting from the head first.
This industry is a fucken buddy system, and I am waiting for that interview to come out that Lawrence Dagstine did. All hell is going to break loose, and the moment I turned on my video cameras it was mixed reactions they either thought: a.) this fuck is a joke or b.) The asshole’s career is done. I don’t see my career on hold or dead for that matter. It is just getting momentum and the stories I am writing now are even more controversial. Exploring room mates from hell, the abortion debate, anti-drunk driving, and different forms of criminal behaviour in the digital age. I have ideas for a novel going right now and thinking of exploring the underworld of digital movie piracy. This pisses me off as much as book piracy does these days, the fact some are so willing to pirate a book I will ask them if they see the theater release legitimately.
Forcing my non-fiction book not to get sales, kind of the most corrupt act someone can do in the business creating a fake account pretending to be a friend just to pay for the e-book when it was halfway ready.
Yeah I’ve seen people like the cocksuckers who now run Preditors and Editors over the years, and I used to live with one of them (won’t mention her name here. I’ve seen their kind.) I’ve been nothing but honest about everything I’ve edited and paid the authors that needed to be paid. I did Tabloid Purposes 3 as a contest and some didn’t understand why I did that, but others saw the large payouts in Tabloid Purposes IV — I paid the lead author $75.00 and that was out of my own pocket. I hope he managed to get something cool with the Tabloid Purposes IV earnings he made. I did the rest of the Tabloid Purposes IV line up as a contest on WritersCafe.org to help with the process of selecting authors — I had about 94 submissions overall for the fourth, and some became the line up for A Library of Unknown Horrors. They knew it was going to be 4theluv (the post Tabloid Purposes anthology.) I did that for a few events.
I was wondering who was the one who blew the whistle, the fact one of the people in the business successfully got me kicked from the HWA and the person who believed in me is no longer around. Meaning she passed away, and other authors went on to win major awards so I am proud of each author who hung around. The ones who moved on in the business. I do wish them well but the ones I will say, “Fuck their career” are the ones who started all the mutinies and this is the first time Tabloid Purposes didn’t have a mutiny. It’s because half the authors in this line up I worked with before and they know I how I work. Trying to run a publishing company and writing my own manuscripts can be the tug of war at times, but looking for a home for the works is harder to do — especially editors like Fred Coppershit. (Yeah the bastard decided to pull his pants down and shit on my achivements. Getting in Tales of the Talisman 2.1, Tales of the Talisman 2.4, and then in the first Withersin issue.)
That is some damn good credits right there and bringing authors who are getting discovered with me on the signings. When they claim that Nickolaus Pacione is on the decline I will do something that screams in their face, “I am still around, and I will always do something that will touch a war nerve.” My transition to Cyberpunk science fiction is one that came naturally because the science in the stories is already there. I was drawn to computer science even as a kid and it became something I used a lot of in my 20s and thirties. If it wasn’t for the www, I wouldn’t even be in the running to get published or the connections to get there. Many people want to see me fail but I will piss them off by suceeding in getting something out there and now I am doing another non-fiction effort — this time a book of interviews. If you’re an author, a publisher, or another personality looking to be interviewed I am conducting them. The fact I’m sending works out a hell of a lot more often these days and seeing what I can get placed — I got the rejection letters saying, “Send again. Didn’t get us fast enough.”
I was insulted by the editor before this current editor of Weird Tales. The new editor said I am welcomed to send the revised version of The Room Mate for consideration. Hell I was rejected from Withersin saying they liked the story and send again the next submission period. I try to find markets that also take non-fiction, and get the non-fiction published first then I would see if they would take the fiction stories. This is my pattern –accepted as a non-fiction author then later accepted as a fiction author.
I had my fierce critics early on and one of them will always be an enemy to me even in the present. This guy took a shit on my website and he was a common troll on Conservatism (yeah as some of you know my history will know I donated paid time to that community. The publishing industries version of the famous for being famous.) I was just starting to get noticed as a writer too, and funny thing was some who know me knew me from 1997 when I was running Shadow of Darkness. That was the beginning. The first time I inherited a place from someone. I think if I didn’t move to Iowa in 1998, that would be one of those things I would had limited chances to work on manuscripts — I lost a lot of my 1998 rough drafts. With that being said I will eventually do an offical anthology for writers who are disabled (not this shit one that I learned that it was rigged and designed to make me look like a complete asshole. That was the controversy called 10 men out, kicking ten authors out of Tabloid Purposes II because I knew what was happening.)
I am wondering who was the asshole who tipped off Preditors & Editors to make sure I don’t get submissions, so with that I was starting to go local with the magazine (yes you Chicago area authors I am looking for writers, but might make this one statewide. Publication date is open, and I do the shoots on the 25th to the 28th for the anthology.)

Oh My Fucking God. Progress On Cyber:Terror:Machine
July 17, 2008, 03:05:am
Cyber:Terror:Machine is becoming a kickass cyberpunk yarn for me. I think this is an entirely new vehicle for me as a writer too. I got three stories in the high range too and think C:T:M will be the second largest novella I’ve written by myself. It’s a larger beast than The Storms of Armageddon and yeah I know already this is going to be the most controversial story in Tabloid Purposes V. Right now the anthology is about 175 pages, just waiting on some key authors to come in and rip some ass. I am very proud of this one, and I got one another story rejected from Weird Tales. My best rejection letter yet. They liked the story but not quite what they are looking for, now I am just waiting on Kevin Donihe’s response. I told him if he could find the kind of bizarro that works for this story, it is his to run. I never thought I would pull off a Cyberpunk opus.
I have to do a word count on this big bitch. I say it like that too, this story is a big crazy bitch to write. Word count for this is 15,775 words and it’s a bitch writing future history with it. I never thought I would create something this dark and menacing for a science fiction story again. The darkest story I’ve written like this as a science fiction story is The Storms of Armageddon, but this has a little more power behind it. The anthology as a whole is going to be a mix between the spiritual and the brash. Machine started in its construction stage when I was doing the guidelines for V. I didn’t think I can actually pull this fucker off when it’s now a novella. It doesn’t have the anger of the horror stories of Tabloid Purposes IV but it is something that will give Tabloid Purposes a new attitude for one book. It’s very bleak and I am happy to get this going.
I am even going to be dropping a few lucky Blade Runner fan fiction writers and I AM LEGEND fan fiction writers an e-mail inviting them to write for Tabloid Purposes V. If they can do stories without the m/m slash or f/f slash elements — I will be definately asking them to come on board for this one. I am a very picky editor when it comes to this kind of thing even when I open my bizarro anthology. There will be project that I will be opening to younger authors who are doing bizarro. Youngest I will take for that anthology is 18.
What can I say right now I am very driven to get Cyber:Terror:Machine done and then I can go back to writing Supernatral Broadcasts and try to get The Drive By Ghost out there — shit I might see if Misty would run that story in the upcoming Withersin anthology. I wrote a hard urban horror tale there set in the southside, and playing off the ghost stories in the area. Cyber:Terror:Machine and Jeff Skinner’s story represent Chicago, but there is one from Iowa who wrote a Chicago based story too. I am very impresed with the line up so far and got a few more authors coming in.

My Education.
July 19, 2008, 08:00:pm
My mother knows this, I actually will pull a high school drop out aside and ask them why the fuck did they drop out of high school. I value education with the highest reguard and do have a strong desire to go back to college. Every time I had the plans to go back I end up getting very sick and getting a setback after set back. So one of the hopes I have if I sell a novel somewhere respectable is so I can go back to school. The authors that got far in this business and suceeded are the ones who have the university degrees. I got some success here and there, but I am still thriving to get the bigger success. I was on my way of taking independant study classes at college of dupage but the money ran out. This always happens to drop outs in college, I have more respect for people who dropped out of college. I hate to see these types waste their life away because I see my best friend in them. The only reason I missed a lot of classes I got sick with a viral syndrome and got hurt badly in a car accident. I am trying to write my way back into college and figuring out how to get the pall grant to go back. I am thinking Joliet Ju-Co or Kankakee Community College (hate the fact I have to start as a first year all over again, but I think it will be worth it. Start going back part time. When I got hurt I was going to school full time.)

Nickolaus Pacione really just said:
That anthology they put together, lot to be desired and it was rushed. The compiler looks like he pulled his pants down and took a steamer upon the thing
Wow.
Nickolaus Pacione actually said:
This industry is a fucken buddy system, and I am waiting for that interview to come out that Lawrence Dagstine did.
Did he just put those two trains of thought in the same sentence? I’d point out the irony of saying it’s a buddy system them him saying…but it’d ruin it.
Nickolaus Pacione seriously, no seriously, actually said:
just to pay for the e-book when it was halfway ready.
Someone paid for an ebook…that was halfway ready…so he sold something that even to him wasn’t ready…
Nickolaus Pacione with a straight face said:
I value education with the highest reguard
All of this is gold. btw I was the one that found his little blurb “The book the HWA doesn’t want you to have” that I passed on to those who got him kicked out in case he is still pissed about that.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many lies and so much delusion in one place before!
That was written a week ago. He still is looking for contributors. It’s been at least five months since he put out his first submission call. And, he considers these email recipients lucky?
I thought he hated fan fiction writers…
Boy still needs to learn basic English.
That thread you mentioned, Al, was the last straw for Nicky at HWA. He went off on Ellen Datlow when she tried to calm him down and reason with him.
However, there had been so many complaints by that time, that then president Braunbeck had initiated an investigation into them. I was asked to contribute the details of my personal problems with nicky that led to my leaving HWA at the end of 04.
I made a brief return to HWA after discussing it with Gary Braunbeck.
Whew, thank goodness I don’t do Blade Runner or I Am Legend fanfic! There’s a bullet dodged to be sure!
When Dagstine’s interview comes out all hell will break loose?
Somehow I doubt it.
But I guess it depends on how slanderous he gets.
Every time I had the plans to go back I end up getting very sick and getting a setback after set back.
Just thinking about going back to college makes him ill? That’s a shame. Both Joliet Junior College and Kankakee Community College have programs for people with learning disabilities. KCC has online courses and JJC has evening courses, so Nicky wouldn’t even have to bestir himself before noon.
It’s all very sad. I’m sure these fine institutions are poorer without him.
I have an account at vampirefreaks. I have had it since April. But I have not done much with it until now. I just posted my poem that usually gets the best reaction from Goths.
He was talking about “pitching” a book to PublishAmerica? “PITCHING” a book to PUBLISHAMERICA?
Oh, the lulz.
No doubt, Jupiter. Oi vay.
So this means he has still been blogging this month, he just did it somewhere he thought was a little more private?
You know I love ETT’s videos, and I hope she doesn’t hold it against me when I agree that they are probably what stopped him from making any more of his own. I don’t blame him he looked like a total douche, but now we won’t get to see him scratch his greasy head while he rants and makes us laugh in the process ;__;
And Philbin’s videos just aren’t the same.
“I am even going to be dropping a few lucky Blade Runner fan fiction writers and I AM LEGEND fan fiction writers an e-mail inviting them to write for Tabloid Purposes V.”
Note to self: never write Blade Runner fanfic. In fact, don’t bother writing any stories with time warping, questions about existence and self-knowledge, memory loss, urban decay, or unseen forces seeking control. He might have actually heard of A Scanner Darkly and The Minority Report.
I know he cited Richard Matheson as an influence, but has he actually read the original? I also have a funny feeling that he has never even heard of Philip K. Dick.
He would not be able to comprehend Dick and I doubt that he has read Matheson.
I don’t think he reads.
I did see some R.L. Stine books on his shelf during his most recent videos. Maybe Pacione’s never advanced past Goosebumps?
@Ben:
Oh, ewwww. I can’t believe that Nicky and I both like R. L. Stine. (Well, in his case, like; in my case, liked.) D:
