The intarwebz went splodey on me.
From here: Daggie really doesn’t get it. Philbin’s playing him like a fiddle.

Is anyone submitting to/ordering Chimericana 5 when it comes out? Deadlines for submissions are May 1st and the anthology’s out later in the year.
I really like Mike Philbin’s stuff, and I reckon this one will be amazing. What do people think? Cheers Adam Lowe |

I’ve submitted. As for his work, “Planet of the Owls” might pick up a Philip K. Dick award or perhaps some other independent award or nomination (at the very least). He’s worked with one of the best editors in the game today (who I believe has edited Pulitzer/Stoker/IPPY and all sorts of other award nominees or winners).
By the way, nice theme and format; what I mean is I just checked out “Polluto”. I’ve also had the honor of working with Steve Redwood and Rhys Hughes in the past, they are fantastic authors in their own right. Lawrence Dagstine Homepage: www.lawrencedagstine.com

Thanks, Lawrence. I think I’m going to submit if I get my act together in time.
Send something to Polluto if you like the sound. Issue 3 is ‘Sex in the Time of VHS’ and Issue 4 is ‘Queer & Loathing in Wonderland’. It’s early days for us yet, but we’ve won an award and worked with some respected names, so we hope to build a half-decent fanbase. From Issue 2 onwards, we’re also producing a hardback numbered edition which is full colour throughout and utterly gorgeous. Cheers

I don’t know if I’ll submit or not. I will say this. I had a story in his first Chimeraworld, where he served as editor. While the publisher turned out to be a bit of a skunk, Mike Philbin was absolutely professional in his dealings with me, and his editing suggestions made my story much better. So, if you have a chance to have a story with his antho, I’d say do it!

I believe Mike runs Chimericana Books now, and he publishes Chimeraworld himself as a result. So the skunk publisher is probably long gone
Well, I just need to polish up my festering, grotesque story for him, and I’ll submit it. Cheers

Feller doesn’t learn… I’ve tried to advise ol’ Larry a few times… finally threw in the towel around last Thanksgiving, if I remember right.
It’s a lot more satisfying to just make popcorn and enjoy the lulz than to try and help someone who just doesn’t get it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_K._Dick_Award
When you consider who has received the Philip K. Dick award in the past and that it is administered by David Hartwell and Gordon Van Gelder, you can be assured that Philbin’s work has only a snowball’s chance in hell of even getting on the preliminary balloting.
Okay, I took a look at the ‘award-winning’ doghorn publishing and I want to add that they award they got was for “Gay” fiction from a well known gay-oriented sf convention.
I imagine that if either Daggy of Phleebite sub to them, it will set my gay-dar buzzing.
When you consider that in an earlier post that Larry said that the Star Wars characters Luke and Padme are twins — evidence that he’s batting a thousand when it comes to avoiding research — it becomes obvious how little he knows about SF.
Meanwhile, back in the Hall of Nitwits, Dagstine is making a sandwich because he can’t do shit…
They won’t even get a nomination. They are living in dreamland.
And the thinks Ralan and Duotrope are obsolete. Is there no end to teh stoopid?
I particularly like that last post in the thread.
Sheesh.
I agree, Johaha. They might be able to con someone into giving them a rec, but never a full nom.
IMHO, Daggy and Phleebite ought to be stripped naked, tied to a bed, and then raped with a cactus.
How much of this is just Douchetard kissing Supreme Douchetard’s butt?
Wow. Flamingo4000. Wow.
I’m surprised Matt hasn’t deleted that.
It was gone when I looked just now, unless I was looking at the wrong thread.
Yup, it’s gone now. I grabbed it right in the nick of time. It was Flamingo4000’s one and only post. No doubt the author knew it was going to be deleted (probably get banned, too).
Wow. I wonder if Dickstine has read it. Or if he will read it here.
Interesting. Dickstine a pervert. Who knew?
Too bad I didn’t get a page grab. When I saw Janrae’s remark, I thought “but, it was there a minute ago,” and instinctively reloaded the page.
Dagstine was probably the one who alerted Matt to its presence.
Well, how Dickstine’s life takes an interesting turn….
I’m not at all surprised that Dagstine would prove to be this perverted, considering the way he choses to depict women in his stories.
I did manage to get a screen grab of it in my Feedreader window.
I am glad that you did. I’m wondering if the fellow has used that handle elsewhere?
I just looked.

OK, the plot needs to thicken, because I need to find out some backstory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Award
http://www.thehugoawards.org/
He’s not on the list. Dagstine does not seem to realize what it takes to win a Hugo award, and that’s the award that is given out at Worldcon.
He’s trying to get people to give him some kind of write in or something. But it isn’t going to happen. Who in their right mind wants to put out several hundred dollars for a membership just to vote from Dagstine?
Enough of that.
I would like to know who this flamingo guy is.
Where’s Dumbstine talking about the Hugos? I missed something here…
Over at horror world he mentioned that he wanted to be voted on for the awards at the worldcon, from the context he did not mean world horror con, but the SF con that is referred to as Worldcon.
He also wanted to see various fantasy products from Sam’s dot voted for. it was originally posted on january 10th just after they opened for voting.
Only people who attended the previous worldcon and those who were attending the one this year, can vote. It is possible to get a voting, but non-attending membership for $50.
Flamingo posted his comment to the bottom of that thread.
Dag was willing to settle for Best Fan Writer. I wonder if he even knows what that requires?

Firstly, that’s an outright lie, and second it’s crypto-homophobic bollocks.
The award we won was a Spectrum Fantasic Arts Silver Editorial Award, with other winners including PLAYBOY and DC COMICS. You’re confusing this award with the Gaylactic Spectrum awards, which .
Dog Horn (two words) is not a gay publisher. It just so happens that I, the publisher, am gay, but that’s not illegal. The story which inspired the award-winning art was about a heterosexual couple, FYI. Even if we did win an award for ‘gay’ fiction (can fiction be gay? Does it have sex?) from a gay SF convention, that’s no different to a SF writer winning a SF award from a SF convention. Or does being ‘gay’ mean anything you win suddenly becomes worthless?
Please can you check your facts before you start spouting bullshit on the internet.
Cheers
God, I love it when these people show up out of nowhere, picking up on topics that are several months old, leaving comments that most readers will never see, unless I specifically draw attention to it.
Well it popped up on Google, so I took a look.
But you haven’t addressed the issue, have you, Rusty?
Janrae was lying or deeply misinformed due to his/her own failure to bother to even look into the matter before posting. As the publisher at Dog Horn, it is my responsibility to ensure people’s lies about us do not go unchallenged.
Dude. I don’t have to address the issue, and I’m not going to. If you have an issue with one of my readers, take it up with that person.
I’m not asking you to take a stance against one of your readers. I’m simply stating facts. You made light of those facts, so I made the point you can’t argue with them (hence ‘you haven’t addressed the issue’). I guess I wasn’t clear in that respect. I was simply stating that, whilst it might amuse you that I’ve posted here after some months, you can’t make a fact any less true because you find it funny.
Oh Janrae are you being homophobic again?
/sarcasm btw.
Very good sarcasm too. Pretty sure Janrae has forgotten more about being gay than this bloke knows.
Oh, and as for comparing gay SF award to an SF award, no, it isn’t equal. Simply put, a gay award goes to writing that is, to put it crudely, gay-centric. Any award that goes to a certain group eliminates a lot of competition. That’s just the way it is.
Would also point out that nowhere in the quote did she refer to your publishing company as gay.
In fact, for someone who ends on ‘check your facts before spouting bullshit’, you denounced something that didn’t come up and accused a writer of homophobia when her world and characters reflect an array of sexual types!
That is quite an easy thing to check on too.
Well done on proving what a sensible and non-hypocritical person you are (more sarcasm there btw)
Yeah I didn’t see anything in this thread that came off as homophobic, but then again I don’t have the authority to deem what is and what isn’t.
Saying two Nitwits subbing to his company pings one’s gaydar isn’t being homophobic. People use that joke on me daily both gay and straight and I’m postive not a one of them is bigoted towards people’s sexual preference.
And Adam you should have thought twice before speaking once, or in this case googled something other than your own name. I’m not just talking about Janrae I’m talking about the “authors” you’ve seen fit to associate with. Don’t google Pacione though, just do the whole blind “I’ll print your story if you print mine” thing that Nitwits are oft one to do. Gives us more to laugh at.
Adam’s stupidity is showing.
I appreciate that people left it to me to explain this to him, but Adam, I am not STRAIGHT.
cussedness, I didn’t say you were straight.
My point is, winning a gay SF award is no less an achievement than winning a straight SF award. True, a gay SF award elimates a lot of the straight competition, but you could argue that more mainstream SF awards eliminate many gay stories anyway.
I also have no idea who Janrae is outside of these comments. But it’s clear her comments were designed to denigrate my publishing company. We’ve worked with Jeff VanderMeer, Rhys Hughes, Steve Redwood and Vince Locke, and are planning projects with Michael Moorcock and Justina Robson. Dagstine will appear in our literary magazine next quarter, but he’ll be the one laughing when he appears alongside these other authors. Therefore her comments are unjustified.
And I never said anything to insinuate that it was a bad thing to win. I would personally love to win a Lambda award.
Wow. Rusty’s cup runneth over with teh cluelessness today.
Not saying anything about the thing that went on with Adam, but about Shocklines.
I ran away because I’m not intense enough for it, lol. Seriously, some of the stuff that goes on over there is just FREAKY!
I prefer to be professional and, when times allow, very bad and suggestive. (evil thoughts*
